Greetings from Room 12, Home of the 5th year E.B’s. I am Christina Carlson, the morning teacher of this lively bunch.
I have taught for 18 years (YIKES) and have had the pleasure of being in all grades from Kindergarten through grade 8 with some Gifted and Talented teaching between. What a thrill to see just how kids grow up and to have the confidence daily to know they all want to make it as a capable a happy member of our world. My undergraduate degree is from the University of Washington, with a bachelors in Community Health. I then earned a teaching certificate from Central Washington University (great aspirations to teach my way around the world… then met my sweet husband who raises apples and pears… we vacation a lot ?). I have a Master’s degree from Heritage University with an emphasis on Professional Development. My greatest professional endeavor however, was receiving my National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification in 2000. I eagerly look forward to the recertification work over the next two years. I also teach adults through National Board facilitation and train for the Washington Education Association’s efforts to support National Board certification for those teachers who are interested. Outside of teaching and learning I love anything dealing with being outside. Summer swimming, gardening, sailing, and hiking blends into autumn canoe trips, winter skiing and snowshoeing. My motto is everyday I am outside it is a better day! Cooking, reading, attempting to be crafty, throwing the ball for Scout the wonder-dog and petting Tigs the cat keep me in tune with the slower side of life. The fast side of life is keeping up with our daughter Mary. At nearly five years old, she is a live wire who loves to be right in the middle of whatever baking, cooking, gardening, or sailing projects anyone might have. My husband Dave and I believe it is a true delight to see the world expand before her jet black eyes. And to revisit those stories again… and again… and again. Discovery has been my home for the past 10 years. Each year is a bit different; this year my efforts being concentrated in language arts and science. We are working hard to appreciate the deliciousness of words, the impact they have and the joy of finding just the right word, story, article or phrase. In science we are delve, daily, into the idea that most activities can be turned into an investigation. Once that concept is discovered, the rest of the day is a breeze. We have many delightful volunteers… consider becoming one today! All images and original text are rights protected For permission to use content, email independntsktr@msn.com | |
