In Study Skills class, students will be expected to set goals for themselves that are clearly outlined in their agendas. Agendas provide the framework for setting lifelong habits of planning, time management and organization. Parents will have the opportunity to contribute to their child’s success by reading through their child’s agenda and signing off weekly. In addition to use of an agenda, students will have the opportunity to learn how, where and when to study most effectively. Lessons in note taking, listening and memorization and test-taking strategies will offer students opportunities to make improvements in their own learning. Curriculum includes original material created to coincide with the student's agenda: “Where There’s A Will There’s An A”, “Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens” and parts of an amazing website with online study skills workshops through Virginia Tech.

Challenge class offers students the opportunity to play educational games in a school environment. Students relax and recharge while using their thinking skills. Game playing/puzzle making both require the ability to stay focused and organized to get the work done within the time limit. Both activities involve use of creativity and tenacity to solve problems while following appropriate rules of social behavior to get along with others. Students will have the opportunity to play the following games in this class: Chess, Scrabble, Cribbage, Racko, Mancala and make 63, 100 and 150 piece puzzles. In Scrabble, we're building our vocabulary by learning two letter words. For example: 'aa' means rough, cindery lava and 'ae' means one, 'li' is a Chinese unit of distance, while 'qi' is the vital force in Chinese thinking and 'xu' is a monetary unit of Vietnam.
