It is a great privilege for me to welcome you and your children to Lewis and Clark Middle School for another year of learning. With your help, we can create opportunities for your children that may never be possible without this valuable gift of education. In order for us to do our best we need your support to make sure your children arrive at school every day, on time, wearing school appropriate clothing and with completed homework assignments. We are committed to providing teachers with the very best teaching skills, the best educational materials, and a safe and supportive environment in which all students can flourish.
We at Lewis & Clark Middle school believe school is an extension of the student’s home and I encourage parents/guardians and families to partner with the school in an effort to accelerate student learning. Our PTSA is planning many fun and exciting events such as, Talent show, Movie night, Bingo night, and Auction night for our students and their families. We hope these events give us opportunities to get to know each other. If we have not had the opportunity to meet you, we encourage you to find the time to visit our school. We will always find the time to welcome you.
I believe our school is the best middle school in Yakima and our students have the potential to perform well academically. As an example, our students MSP (Measure of Student Progress) scores increased tremendously in both Math and Language Arts.
Students at the Lewis & Clark Middle School will be expected to wear standard clothing. This will encourage students to focus on learning and help with school safety. Please see the What's New page for an explanation of the benefits and reasons for implementing "Dress for Success" as well as clothing expectations. We started the "Dress for Success" program last year and believe it made a measurable difference in academic success and safety at our school. It also contributed to our school having the lowest student suspension among other middle schools in our district. If you have any questions or need assistance please come by the school or give me a call at 573-2200.
