Welcome to our new Trailblazer students, parents and staff members!

Our 6th grade Transition held August 20-22 was very successful! Parents & students had the opportunity to meet the teachers, learn their way around Lewis & Clark, get a head start on Math and Language Arts and to have some fun making new friends. Newly trained Lewis and Clark ASB leadership students assisted the 6th graders on tours, finding their classes and serving snacks and answering questions.

The students and staff have been busy settling into the school year. Mrs. Coe, Mr. Segura, our school resource officer Gary Garza and I have been visiting classrooms to meet with your students regarding our expectations for their behavior implementing “STARRS”: Safe, Trustworthy, Academically Successful, Respectful, Responsible, and Self Manager. In talking with your students we have been answering their questions about opportunities for students to be involved in leadership activities at our school. We know that parental involvement is a crucial element in the implementation of our School Improvement Plan, and in your son’s /daughter’s success in school. We are looking forward to meeting with you at our PTSA meeting on September 10th at 6:30 p.m. in the Commons followed by our Open House at 7:00 p.m. starting in the gym.

The Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) results have been released. We will mail Individual Student Reports to the parent guardian of all students at Lewis and Clark who took the WASL last spring. At Lewis and Clark we are continuing to focus on raising student achievement in reading,

writing, math, and science. At our September 10th Open House we will be recognizing each of the students who passed the WASL.

We are here to work with you and your children and looking forward to this school year.  If you have any questions or need assistance please come by the school or give me a call at 573-2201.

Sincerely yours,

Lois Betzing

Principal
