November 2008
The character word for the month of November is “Responsible.” The definition students are receiving at Wilson is: “Being responsible means others can depend on you. It's doing something well and to the best of your abilities.” I encourage you to take some time at home to define this word to your children as it applies to your family. At middle school we work hard at having students accept responsibility for their learning. This is the time students start “breaking out of their shells” and start exploring areas of interest in their lives. For many, it could be math, for others, science or language arts, and for others, music or the arts. No matter what areas they choose to pursue in their future career, being a responsible person will be central for their success. Please reaffirm with your student that part of their responsibility is to pay attention in class, get enough rest during the week, come to school every day, and be prepared to learn. These practices can just about guarantee a successful middle school experience. We look forward to our continued partnership with parents, community and organizations participating in the character development efforts of our youth.
Sincerely,
