Privacy

Thank you for visiting the Yakima Public Schools Website and for reviewing our privacy policy. The following are short descriptions of how we ensure our visitors' security, to what degree we secure any submitted personal information, and of the general security that we provide for our staff and students concerning this website.

Yakima Public Schools Internet Security Policy:

We collect no personal information about our visitors unless they choose to provide that information to us. However, for site security purposes and to ensure that this service remains available to all users, our computer system monitors all network traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information, or attempts to otherwise cause damage.

Information Collected and Stored Automatically:

We gather and store some specific information about your visit automatically, but this is limited to data that does not identify you personally. Specifically, only the following information about your visit is collected:

…the internet domain and IP address from which you access our website. An internet domain is reflected in the name of an internet provider, such as MSN.com or yakimaschools.org, and an IP address is a number assigned to a computer for the purpose of network or Internet access.

…the type of browser and operating system you use to access our site. A browser is the software used to access and view the internet, such as Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. An operating system is the software literally “operates” a computer, such as Windows XP or Mac OS.

…the date and time that you access our site.

…the pages that you access.

…search phrases and words you use to navigate or to find information on our site.

…and finally, if you arrive at our site via a link from another website, we note that
website’s address.

This information provides us with a variety of ways to make our site more useful to our visitors.

Personal Information:

We collect personal information only when you choose to provide it, such as in an email to a staff member or in the completion of a submitted form that requires personal data. In these instances, we use this information only to respond to your message and to help us meet your requests; your personal information will be shared with the minimum amount of contacts necessary to address your concerns.

Law requires us to maintain some material (including e-mails) received by Yakima School District employees over varying lengths of time. These laws sometimes require public disclosure of certain materials, as well. We will release any submitted materials, regardless of their content, if required to do so by law or judicial subpoena.

Information that you provide will be handled in accordance with Board Policy, State, and Federal Law. The Yakima School District does not collect or use information for commercial marketing purposes.

Confidentiality and Security:

All Yakima School District email account information is password protected, meaning that only the intended recipients of an email (or an administrator of the email system) may read it.

In certain areas, we use industry standard SSL-encryption to protect data transmissions, which ensures that any information passing through these areas will not be intercepted and will remain confidential.

The Yakima School District may set and access cookies on your computer. Cookies are small pieces of data that a website can use to store information on a computer. This allows the website to tailor its information to suit a guest’s personal preferences, and to provide a guest with a more timely and meaningful visit. Most internet browsers allow for the deletion or limited acceptance of cookies.

Yakima Public Schools reserves the right to update and change this policy as necessary. Any changes to this policy will be posted in our Policy/Terms page to reflect the date of modification.

We make every effort to ensure that our Yakima School District website content adheres to the following guidelines:

Violate no copyright laws.

Violate no district policies or federal/state laws.

Regularly update time-sensitive materials.

Limit personal information for students and staff.

Allow no identifying student photograph, composition, or statement that has been explicitly denied permission for publication by that student’s parent or legal guardian.

Allow no obscene, violent, or sexually inappropriate material, or link to any site providing these types of material.

Allow no information that supports or opposes a political candidate, an election campaign, or a ballot proposition, or link to any site of these contents unless for an approved educational purpose.

Allow no information that endorses or opposes any religious material, or link to any site of these contents unless for an approved educational purpose.

Allow no information or documents that discriminate against race, religion, economic status, creed, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, pregnancy, marital status or disability, or link to any site of these contents unless for an approved educational purpose.

Allow no advertising for commercial marketing purposes.

It is strictly prohibited for the unauthorized to upload or change information on this system, and those found in violation may be subject to prosecution under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act of 1986, Title 18 U.S.C. Sec.1001 and 1030.

Privacy

“The Yakima School District complies with federal and state laws, and applicable regulations regarding discrimination on the basis of any protected class as defined by law. This holds true for all district employment and opportunities. The Yakima School District specifically does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, creed, religion, color, national origin, age, honorably discharged veteran or military status, sexual orientation including gender expression or identity, non-job related sensory, mental or physical disability, or the use of a trained dog guide or service animal by a person with a disability in its programs and activities and provides equal access to the Boy Scouts and other designated youth groups.”
