    Dear Wilson Families,

Most Wilson students are making an effort to connect with teachers during the week for long distance learning. We will continue to make attempts to connect with students that we show have not had communication with anyone at the school. If you receive this letter and your student has not participated in distance learning please give us a call at 509-573-2402 to arrange communication and learning for your student.

Many parents and students have inquired about the grading process used for distance learning. We will be following the OSPI grading guidelines. Our philosophy in grading will be: "Do No Harm" and to give students the opportunity to improve their grades using their March 17th status as a baseline. All students will receive either an A, B, C or Incomplete grade as determined by their teacher. We recognize the challenges this unforeseen school closure has caused all of us and our priority is your student’s physical and emotional well being. All and any effort on your students’ behalf will be considered an attempt to improve their learning.

We will also continue to follow the schedule below so students can organize their week to participate in teacher’s online meetings or office hours. Students will continue to receive assignments on Mondays.

    TUESDAY

    WEDNESDAY

If you have any questions concerning this schedule, grading or distance learning in general please contact the administrative team at 509-573-2401 for Mr. Araiza; 509-573-2403 for Mr. Gonzales; 509-573-2404 for Ms. Bourgeois.

We hope that you continue to remain safe and healthy! Thank you always for your continued support, patience, kindness, and grace.

    Sincerely,

    Your Wilson Administrative Team

District Announcements

  • Drive-In Graduation Events Canceled (5/26/20)

May 26, 2020, Yakima, WA - At this time, the Yakima School District regrets that we have canceled drive-in graduation events for Eisenhower, Davis, and Stanton.  In recent communications with the Yakima Health District and guidelines set forth by the governor, we have determined that any celebration, other than virtual, is highly unlikely. The District, in conjunction with high school leadership at Eisenhower, Davis, Stanton and Yakima Online, will not facilitate or support a drive-in or virtual watch party, due to the growing concern of the number of infections in Yakima County and our lingering Phase 1 reopening status.

While the district is still hopeful that a June 13 procession down Yakima Avenue to honor our graduates could happen, there are growing doubts, due to the status of Yakima County as a COVID-19 hotspot. This processional is something that we know our graduating seniors deserve but it may not be possible. We hope to provide updated information on the possibility of the June 13 processional on June 1.

Class of 2020 Seniors – please check your specific high school’s website for more graduation details. www.YakimaSchools.org

  • June 17 is the last day of school for YSD students

According to guidance from OSPI, unless districts can show that student learning was NOT impacted by the emergency closures (either loss of instructional days, loss of instructional hours per day, or both) districts are required to add five (5) days at the end of the school year. For the Yakima School District, that means June 17th will be the final day of distance learning for the 2019-20 school year. Support will be available to students via distance learning through June 17.

You are invited to complete the survey once per week. This is a free survey developed and administered by The Center for Educational Effectiveness (CEE) for the public good. All individual survey responses are confidential and anonymous.

  • Be Counted! 2020 Census

Census 2020 The census is a way for our community to seek the necessary financial support from the government that it needs.  Our schools depend on the census count for accurate program funding. In mid-March, you will receive an invitation to participate in the census from the Census Bureau. Be sure to count everyone in your household - even infants.  Responding to the census is the law, however, it is against the law for the Census Bureau to inquire about personal information such as immigration status.  It is illegal for the Census Bureau to pass on your contact information to other government entities. They use your contact info, such as your name and address, to know if you have already been counted. Once you have responded, you will no longer receive notices from the Census Bureau and a census worker will not come to your home.  If you have any questions, we have put together videos and information for you online at www.YakimaSchools.org/2020census
