• Principal's Message

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Students, Parents and Staff to Garfield Elementary School. My name is Alan Matsumoto. I have been fortunate to be the Principal of Garfield for the past 16 years. It seems just like yesterday, when I first became a Garfield Great.

At Garfield we believe in the 3Rs. We say them each day. "I am a Garfield Great, I treat everyone with Respect, I am Responsible and I Reflect on my choices." We believe everyone can be Great by following this simple saying. Our staff, with the support of our parents, is committed to helping each of our students to become the best that they can be. They can all be Garfield Greats.

We believe is teaching the whole child. We want them to develop academically and also to have a healthy mind and body. We believe in strong relationships that lead to better engaged students. We believe that students learn in many different ways so we include the Arts in each student’s academic day. We believe our students can be whatever they want to be. We help them develop the skills to reach those goals. They can all be Garfield Greats.

We need and welcome the support of our school community. We welcome your involvement in this most important opportunity. It will take us all to make each of our students the Garfield Greats they can be. Please come join us in this effort.

    Yours truly,

    Alan Matsumoto
