The Communications office is working to provide exposure for YSD students to international programming.  Currently, this includes short exchange programs to and from Japan and Macau, China.

December 7-13, students and teachers from Hou Kong Schools in Macau will visit the Yakima School District for the YAKIMAC Elite Exchange.  In the summer of 2020 (likely the end of June), YSD students and teachers will travel to Macau for one week to complete the exchange.  Hou Kong Schools has acquired a grant for the majority of this programming.  Costs to families hosting Hou Kong students in December to send their student to Macau in June will be approximately $600 including airfare. Some scholarships are available.

On April 10, 2020, eighty students from Yamate Gakuin Schools in Yokohama, Japan, will arrive in Yakima and will stay for two weeks.  This exchange has occurred for nearly 50 years! It only happens every three years, and host families are needed.  On August 7, 2020, YSD will take a group of up to 40 students to Yokohama to complete the exchange.  The cost to families for this exchange is approximately $2200, including airfare.  Some scholarships are available.
